Stave churches are one of my guilty pleasures about Norway. For one, a lot of people AND Norwegians don’t know about them! So you’re already earning some bonus points right there straight off the bat. Secondly, they’re so unique and such a different take on people’s interactions with churches that I find fascinating. It’s a real cultural treat and one of the top experiences in Norway.

I mean, did you know many stave churches have animals carved into their decoration? A true testament of just how important nature is to Norway. For more back ground information and a list and locations of the remaining stave churches click here.
